Beats by Dre may be owned by Apple, but the audio brand still operates independently – albeit with a bit of help on the techy side of things.
Think of it like the cool cousin that rocks up late to the party. In this case, the party is totally independent wireless earphones.
The Powerbeats Pro are basically the same as AirPods – they come in a little wireless charging case and hook up to your iPhone via Bluetooth 5. But they’ve got rubberised ear hooks and come in more than just one colour.
Aimed primarily at fitness enthusiasts, the Powerbeats Pro are sweat and water resistant and boast a 9 hour battery life. Beats says you get 1.5 hours of playback after just 5 minutes of charging and up to 4.5 hours after 15 minutes of charging.
A UK release date hasn’t been officially announced yet but when they do drop at some point in May they’ll set you back £220. Which is £20 more than the £200 AirPods 2 with a wireless charging case.
Apple has loaded the Powerbeats Pro up with its H1 chip. The company says that it ‘delivers performance efficiencies, faster connect times and more talk time’. Which basically means a more stable connection and less dropped calls when you’re using the earphones to make phone calls or talk to Siri.
‘Powerbeats Pro is a harmonious blend of premium sound, fit and functionality. Powerbeats are already the #1 fitness headphones in the world and they are now untethered, with all the benefits of the Apple H1 chip,’ said Luke Wood, president of Beats.
‘No longer do you have to choose between performance and practicality—it delivers the best on both fronts.’
You get a choice of four different colours for the new Powerbeats Pro: Black, Ivory, Moss and Navy.
